This handblown art glass vase was blown from upcycled waste from the murrine-making process, in this case, the end of the murrine pull that was too wide to be cut for murrine (patterned disks of colored glass).
The result is a complex pattern of twisted and stretched red and cream canes, some seen side-on, some seen end-on. At least three days of studio time go into fabricating complex canes and then the murrine pull itself. This vase is one of a kind and was blown by the artist (David L Smith) with a unique shape and pattern. Because this is hand-blown, there are small bubbles and tool marks present in the piece. These are artifacts of the process and testify to the handblown nature of the item. This vase is a piece of art and is signed and dated by the artist. And it it a practical object as well, suitable for use every day. Hand washing recommended.
