The dynamic tectonics of mid-ocean rifts, where oceanic crust is constantly being created, fractured, and pulled apart, inspire this handblown and handcarved glass sculpture. The voids in this piece both reveal and obscure the underlying structure of the piece.
The upper surface of the piece has been carved with diamond and stone wheels to produce a finely-faceted satin texture and the lower surface has also been cold-worked to yield a satin surface, both of which contrast with the highly polished cut faces.
