Named for a type of ice present in spring thaws, this vase is patterned with copper blue and white murrine. Murrine are disks of patterned glass and these were formed by layering copper blue, white and clear glass into a cylinder, drawing out that cylinder into a rod, annealing it and then cutting it up into thin disks. Those disks were later assembled into a sheet, tacked together in a reheating furnace, and then rolled up on the surface of a bubble to produce the pattern seen here.
This vase is currently on display/sale at Laura's Custom Framing and Fine Art, on Chestnut Street in Emmaus, PA. It can be purchased here and a portion of the purchase prices will go to the gallery as a commission.
